Brewers Best Paradise Seeds 1 lb. are secondary grain addition for beer flavoring

BEER MAKING

It is called Aframomun melegueta but also known as "Grains of Paradise," "Guinea grains" and "Melegueta pepper." These small seeds look like cardamom but have a character all their own. The spice is native to West Africa & during medieval times was used to flavor food. It has also been used as a pepper substitute. While it does have a peppery zing, it also has notes of citrus & an "earthy" pine aroma. Depending on the desired taste and recipe, these grains are added at the end of the boil.

OTHER PRODUCTS YOU MIGHT NEED

farmhouse-ale-yeastBeer Yeast

Brewers Best Paradise Seeds can be used for fermentation with any beer yeast.

FermenterFermenters

If you are using Brewers Best Paradise Seeds you probably are fermenting some beer. Here's a link to our fermenter equipment.

minijet-tubing-34987-97929.jpgHoses

Many people reuse their hoses for far too long. Replacing your hoses often or even using as single use items is highly recommended with beer making. Especially if you are using Brewers Best Paradise Seeds you want to avoid residual flavors.

SiphonsSiphons

Auto-siphons are a great luxury item to have in your brew equipment. Once you have one you will never go without one again. Don't forget to use a heavy duty sanitizer to clean it since you don't want to replace it often as hoses. A good sanitizer for that job is Five Star San.

4708-anti-splash-funnel-95307-32839.jpgFunnels

Pouring your wort into a carboy can be tricky. Use a big funnel made just for the job. They even have different mesh screens to remove particles.

AirlocksAirlocks

Airlocks are another inexpensive product that should be periodically replaced. Though it might be easy to assume bacteria is not a concern with airlocks because they do not actually touch your beer, this is not the case. A small increase in temperature could cause your beer to swell and back up into the airlock. It happens often. You don't want to risk losing your batch over a potentially unsanitary and cheap piece of plastic.

yeast-starter.pngYeast Starters

Making a yeast starter is a great way to avoid stuck fermentation and also get high yeast counts that allow the final cells to clean up after themselves, reducing off flavors and aromas. Starting with high populations makes better beer. Use the right equipment to make the job easy. Flask, Foam Stopper, and Airlock.

 DID YOU KNOW?

While Grains of Paradise are widely used in beer making, they are also used to treat heart disease and obesity. Though there is a long tradition of these practices, there is not much scientific research to support these claims.
