Flaked Barley, available in a convenient 10 lb package, is a versatile ingredient that you can use to enhance your beer brewing process. Typically used in small quantities, Flaked Barley contributes to the body of your brew and significantly improves head retention.
This ingredient is commonly incorporated in the brewing of Porter and Stouts, but its mellow nature makes it suitable for almost any beer style you're crafting. However, be aware that using larger amounts of Flaked Barley can cause a haze in your beer due to its high protein content. Despite this, the protein doesn't significantly impact the end alcohol content as it contains minimal sugars for yeast alcohol production.
We suggest you use larger amounts of Flaked Barley in darker beers to take advantage of its hazing qualities. For lighter colored beers, we recommend caution when using larger quantities to avoid excessive hazing. Remember, Flaked Barley should not be used as a primary malt source due to its low sugar content.
In addition to beer making, Flaked Barley can also be used in baking and cooking for its nutritional benefits. It's a versatile ingredient that can enhance the texture and taste of various dishes.

Brewers Barley Flakes
CHARACTERISTICS / APPLICATIONS
Brewers Barley Flakes are produced specifically for brewing, developing characteristics necessary for easy and efficient use in a brewhouse. The process of gelatinizing makes the starches readily soluble and digestible by the naturally occurring enzymes in barley malt. This allows the flakes to be incorporated directly into the mash with other grains. Because flakes have a large surface area and are pre-cooked, they hydrate and disintegrate quickly. Filtration time will be normal.
There is no need to mill Barley Flakes. However, they can be put through the mill if that is the easiest means of adding them to the mash.
Use Barley Flakes as an adjunct in all-grain brews to produce a lighter colored finished beer without lowering the original gravity.
Use in place of corn as an adjunct to eliminate corn flavor in the finished beer.
Use at 10-25% of total grist to produce a light colored, mild flavored, dry beer.
