If you really don't like plastic
"Got this and the plastic one (http://labelpeelers.com/equipment/testing/fermtech-wine-thief/) at the same time to try them both out. This one works, but it is very simple in construction. This one also holds far less volume and is not wide enough for a hydrometer as compared to the plastic one. After placing in the liquid, you will need to cover the top hole with your thumb to hold a vacuum and keep the liquid in--there is no check valve like on the plastic one. Because of this you can't really use it with carboys, it is better with a bucket or other wide opening vessel. It is essentially moving liquid using a fancy shaped glass straw. It's simple and it works, but the plastic one is much more convenient."
