The Sampler formerly called a Fermtech Wine Thief.  Unique design allows you to insert a standard hydrometer directly into The Thief. Simply dip the Fermtech Wine Thief once for a quick sample. Just touch the tip to the rim to empty the Fermtech Wine Thief.  Constructed from High grade acrylic for excellent clarity. 19" in length by approximately 1" in diameter. A Fermtech Wine Thief is much less messy than using a standard Turkey Baster to sample from your fermenter due to the needle valave at the bottom of the Thief.

All good equipment. Bottles were

"All good equipment. Bottles were perfect for dessert wines"

Works as needed

Does the job

"This does the job of grabbing a sample. But it doesn't seal well and drips constantly."

— Brian (3/5)

Wine Thief

"This wine thief is a practical gadget for home winemakers. Easy to use, easy to clean and sanitize; you can take samples, test them using your hydrometer and return the sample to the container within seconds. It is worth the money."

— Hamid B. (5/5)

Noce, well built tool.

"Very clear plastic allows SG readings easy right from the thief. Drips occasionally, but a simple tug on the valve tab stops that. Didn't see a grommet there. Perhaps a rubber grommet would allow more efficient seal. Over all, it works great. Well built."

— Steve G. (5/5)

Easy and convenient

"A great way to take some product out for a test read"

Great tool to have

"Fermented with Brett and wanted to check my gravity. A little bit of drippage going on with this, but not too bad. I am sure my technique will improve too! Definitely recommend."

Better than a baster

"This is a good tool for removing wine from a carboy or primary for the purposes of taking hydrometer readings or making room for additions to a carboy. However, I still transfer my wine to a glass test jar before using my hydrometer. I have found that the hydrometer tends to "lean" against the wall of the wine thief, making it difficult to take an accurate reading. I do not have this problem when using a test jar, perhaps because the test jar has a stand and can be set on a level surface. Be sure to gently push any surface foam aside before submerging the tip of the wine thief for obtaining a sample, as you will otherwise end up with foam in your sample and not be able to get an accurate reading. Also, the stopper on the end of the wine thief can get clogged with small pieces of oak, causing your sample to flow out of the thief as soon as you lift it from your wine. If this happens, you will need to remove the debris and gently pull on the tip of the stopper to re-seat."

Convenient tool to have on hand

"I've used a turkey baster to pull hydrometer samples in the past. This certainly was much more convenient and less messy. I have a 6 gallon plastic 'Bubbler' carboy and the thief could touch the bottom without falling in. Got a good sample and could even put the hydrometer directly in the tube for a quick reading. I also used it to pull a quart and a half of wine out of my carboy to make room for extra flavor additions in secondary. Worked surprisingly well, though it does drip a little bit so I wouldn't plan to carry it too far or hold it over the floor for too long."
