At its core, this Rye Pale Ale showcases a layered malt backbone, starting with 7 lbs of Pale Malt for a clean, slightly bready base. 2 lbs of Rye Malt introduce a signature sharpness and a touch of earthy spice, adding depth and texture. A small addition of Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (0.5 lb) contributes mild caramel sweetness and a hint of toasted richness, balancing the rye’s bold presence.
The hop bill enhances the complexity with a carefully timed blend of additions. Magnum Hops (0.5 oz, 60 min) provide a firm yet smooth bitterness, while Cascade Hops (1 oz, 15 min) impart classic citrus and floral notes. INSTRUCTIONS
Prepare Equipment:
Sanitize all brewing equipment thoroughly.
Mash:
Heat 3.5 gallons of water to 152°F.
Add all malts to your mash tun and mash at 152°F for 60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Sparge:
Heat 4 gallons of water to 170°F for sparging.
Slowly rinse the grains, collecting about 6.5 gallons of pre-boil wort.
Boil:
Bring the wort to a rolling boil.
Add hops at the specified times:
0.5 oz Magnum at 60 minutes (bittering).
1 oz Cascade at 15 minutes (flavor).
0.5 oz Citra at 5 minutes (aroma).
Boil for a total of 60 minutes.
Cool and Transfer:
Cool the wort rapidly to 68°F using an immersion or counterflow chiller.
Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermenter and top off with water to exactly 5 gallons.
Fermentation:
Pitch the Safale US-05 yeast into the fermenter.
Ferment at 68°F for 7–10 days.
Packaging:
Bottle with priming sugar or keg the beer, carbonating to approximately 2.5 volumes of CO2
Allow the beer to condition for 2 weeks before serving.
