Your Label Peelers Storm Sinker Porter Original Beer Kit never sits on a shelf. Your grains are crushed to order. Your ingredients are packed fresh and you don't pay for a flashy box. It's all about providing you with the freshest ingredients for you to make your best beer.

Dive into the depths of flavor with the Storm Sinker Porter Beer Kit, your ticket to brewing a rich, dark beer that’s perfect for those stormy nights when the wind howls and the rain pelts against your windows. This kit is designed to help you craft a porter that’s as complex and intriguing as a thunderstorm, with layers of taste that will keep you coming back for more.

The Storm Sinker Porter is a dark-colored beer that gets its robust chocolate and caramel flavors from a carefully selected blend of malts. You’ll start with 6 lbs. of Amber Dry Malt Extract, which lays the foundation for a hearty brew. To this, you’ll add 12 oz. of Caramel 60L Malt, 8 oz. of Chocolate Malt, and 8 oz. of Roasted Barley Malt, creating a symphony of rich, roasted flavors that dance on your palate like lightning in the night sky.

But the magic doesn’t stop there. The hops in this kit bring a floral and earthy balance to the malt’s sweetness. You’ll use 1 oz. of Northern Brewer Hops, 1 oz. of Fuggle Hops, and 1 oz. of Cascade Hops, each contributing its unique character to the brew. The Northern Brewer Hops add a subtle bitterness, while the Fuggle Hops bring a classic English earthiness, and the Cascade Hops offer a hint of citrusy brightness, like a ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds.

To ensure your brew is as smooth as a calm sea after the storm, the kit includes a Yeast Energizer / Irish Moss Combo Packet, which helps to clarify your beer and enhance fermentation. And with a packet of Lallemand London ESB Ale Dry Yeast, you’ll achieve a fermentation that’s as reliable as the tides, producing a beer with a perfect balance of flavors.

The Storm Sinker Porter Beer Kit is more than just a brewing project; it’s an adventure in a bottle. As you hunker down and craft this beer, you’ll find that each sip is a journey through a stormy night, with the comforting warmth of chocolate and caramel flavors, balanced by the floral and earthy notes of the hops. Just be careful not to go down with this sip – it’s a brew that’s as deep and captivating as the ocean itself.

star sanSanitizer and Spray Bottle

Good sanitation practices are absolutely fundamental to good beer making. Five Star San is the premier sanitizer you will need to make your Storm Sinker Porter beer kit. A great practice for extra protection is to have a spray bottle filled with sanitizing solution so you can re-sanitize everything that touches or goes near your beer. Sanitation is much more difficult with beer than wine because beer has a higher pH. Wine's high acidity makes bacterial infection less likely but with beer, one small mishap can cost you your batch.

When your Storm Sinker Porter is done, you will need bottles. This standard 12 ounce bottle is a good choice. You will need 54 for a 5 gallon batch. Bottles do not come with caps.

5 gallon glass carboy

Carboys

The 5 gallon carboy pictured here is the standard size for any beer kit. If you have never worked with a carboy, it is important to know they should not be moved full without a carboy handle or a carrier.

The pot pictured is an 8 gallon pot that is perfect for any beer kit or a standard 5 gallon batch.

wart-chiller.pngWort Chillers and Thermometers

Wort Chillers and Thermometers are long term investments. It is important to chill your Storm Sinker Porter wort quickly. The quicker you chill it the stronger the cold break will be. You also need a good thermometer that reads fast temperature fluctuations.

SiphonsSiphons

Auto-siphons are a great luxury item to have in your brew equipment. Once you have one you will never go without it again. Don't forget to use a heavy duty sanitizer to clean it since you don't want to replace it as often as hoses. A good sanitizer for that job is Five Star San.

FermenterFermenters

The fermenter pictured here is standard for a 5 gallon beer kit.

minijet-tubing-34987-97929.jpgHoses

Many people reuse their hoses for far too long. Replacing your hoses often or even using as single use items is highly recommended with beer making. Hoses are very hard to clean and beer is very susceptible to bacterial infection. You do not want to risk losing your  Storm Sinker Porter over a few feet of unsanitary hose.

Pouring your wort into a carboy can be tricky. Use a big funnel made just for the job. They even have different mesh screens to remove particles.

AirlocksAirlocks

It is recommended to replace airlocks often. Because they never physically touch the beer, the sanitation risk is too often overlooked. Bacteria can spread without physical contact in a closed environment and plastic stubbornly harbors bacteria.

6.5 stopperStoppers and Bungs

Bungs and stoppers should also be periodically replaced. They can dry out and harbor bacteria.

 carboy brushCarboy Brush

Keeping your carboy clean before and after use is key to avoid bacterial infection in your beer. A carboy brush is a great tool to get into those nooks and crannies.

bottle-washer.pngStainless Steel Carboy and Bottle Washer

Stainless Steel Carboy and Bottle Washer is a convenient way of cleaning your bottles and/or carboys.  This high quality tool will come in handy.  Hooks up straight to your faucet with the bottle washer adapter (#4804) and puts out plenty of pressure to clean those stubborn stains from beer bottles that have been sitting around.

bottle capperCapper

When you bottle your Storm Sinker Porter, you will need to cap your bottles. This capper is inexpensive, easy to use and does not require attaching to a counter. It has a magnet to hold the cap in place.

 DID YOU KNOW

At the end of summer, bines of hops are harvested and separated. To reduce moisture content, the hops are then spread out on the upper floor of an oast house and heated by heating units on the lower floor. Once dried, they are compressed into bales by a baler.
