couple drinking beer

Briess Blackprinz Malt is a dark, roasted malt specifically designed for beer making. With its intense, deep flavors of chocolate and coffee, it adds a unique and complex taste to your finished beer. This malt creates a deep red to dark brown color in your beer, and gives your beer a mouth-filling, yet smooth, roasted character. The malt also adds a bit of sweetness, which is helpful in cutting down the bitterness of hops. With its complex flavor profile and intense color, Briess Blackprinz Malt is the perfect choice for any beer that calls for a dark roasted malt.

Briess Blackprinz Malt 50 lb adds an excellent malt for color with subtle, smooth flavor for Black IPAs, dark wheat beers and Schwarzbier.  Use up to 10% for deep color plus mild, smooth flavor in porters and stouts.  Enjoy the deep color with mild roasted/chocolate/coffee flavors.

STORAGE AND SHELF LIFE

Store in a temperate, low humidity, pest free environment at temperatures of <90 ºF. Improperly stored malts are prone to loss of freshness and flavor. Whole kernel diastatic and preground malts are best when used within 6 months from date of manufacture. Whole kernel roasted malts may begin experiencing a slight flavor loss after 18 months.

FLAVOR & COLOR CHARACTERISTICS

 Malt Style: Bitterless Black Malt
 Flavor: Subtle, smooth. No bitter, astringent, dry flavors or aftertaste. Very delicate, clean flavor
 Mild roasted malty flavor
 Color: Dark brown to black tones

CHARACTERISTICS / APPLICATIONS

 Blackprinz® Malt is produced from hulless barley and functions as a 1:1 replacement to debittered black malt, but with smoother flavor. That's because debittered black malts are made by removing a great deal of the husk, but not all of it. Since husk develops bitter notes during roasting, debittered black malts will contribute a certain amount of bitter, astringent or dry flavors or after taste to beer.
 Blackprinz® Malt will contribute the same color characteristics as Black Malt but without the bitter, astringent, dry flavors or aftertaste.
 Use in Black IPAs, Black Lagers, Black Ales, Schwarzbiers and other beers for deep, rich color with only hints of subtle roasted flavor, and for color adjustment in any beer style.

SUGGESTED USAGE LEVELS

 1-2% Minor color adjustment with little to no flavor impact in lighter colored lagers and ales
 2-5% Adds color with subtle, smooth flavor
 5-10% Use in larger quantities for color plus mild roasted malty flavor

If you are purchasing Briess Blackprinz Malt, you're getting ready to make beer and need to wash your equipment.

Hops is the main bittering agent in beer. You can select from a huge line of hop varietals from Hop Union to suit any brewers needs. The freshest hops for your next homebrewing endeavor. All hops are from YHC.

wart-chiller.pngWort Chillers and Thermometers

Wort Chillers and Thermometers are long term investments. It is important to chill your wort quickly. The quicker you chill it the stronger the cold break will be. You also need a good thermometer because high powered boiling changes more rapid temperature fluctuations.

SiphonsSiphons

Auto-siphons are a great luxury item to have in your brew equipment. Once you have one you will never go without one again. Don't forget to use a heavy duty sanitizer to clean it since you don't want to replace it as often as hoses. A good sanitizer for that job is Five Star San.

FermenterFermenters

If you are using Briess Blackprinz Malt, you are getting ready to ferment some beer. Here's a link to our fermenter equipment.

minijet-tubing-34987-97929.jpgHoses

Many people reuse their hoses for far too long. Replacing your hoses often or even using as single use items is highly recommended with beer making.

Pouring your wort into a carboy can be tricky. Use a big funnel made just for the job. They even have different mesh screens to remove particles.

AirlocksAirlocks

All that healthy yeast is going to make a lot of gas and you'll be needing an airlock to let it out, and not let anything in. It is recommended to replace airlocks often. Because they never physically touch the beer, the sanitation risk is too often overlooked. Bacteria can spread without physical contact in a closed environment and plastic stubbornly harbors bacteria.

yeast-starter.pngYeast Starters

Making a yeast starter is a great way to avoid stuck fermentation and also get high yeast counts that allow the final cells to clean up after themselves, reducing off flavors and aromas. Higher populations means less yeast stress and less risk of off-flavors.  They help make better beer and can be used with Briess Blackprinz Malt. Use the right equipment to make the job easy.
