Medium (40–80L)

Medium Caramel and Crystal malts, typically ranging from 40 to 80 Lovibond, bring deeper color and more pronounced sweetness to your beer. They contribute rich amber to copper hues along with flavors starting at lightly toasted sugar and moving toward caramel and toffee and loovibond increases.

These malts add body and a fuller mouthfeel while introducing a balanced sweetness that can support both malt and hop forward styles. They are commonly used in amber ales, red ales, and darker pale ales where added depth and structure are desired without pushing into heavy or roasted territory.

The sequence of flavors from caramel to toffee to toasted sugar is directly tied to higher and higher kiln temperatures in that order.
