Lineage & History
Citra was developed by the Hop Breeding Company (HBC) from a complex pedigree that includes Hallertau Mittelfrüh, Brewer's Gold, East Kent Golding, Bavarian landrace hops, and several USDA experimental breeding lines. The breeding program sought to create a hop with exceptionally intense aroma while maintaining strong agronomic performance. Pound of Citra Hops fine, but packaging was not.
"The pound of hops was stuffed into an envelope the exact height of the bag of hops. I cut a quarter of an inch off the top of envelope and cut the top of the hop bag as well. They should use an envelope with a pull tab if they want to use one that size. I could not have cut into envelope without cutting the hop bag. So now they will deteriorate until I use them because of the company's poor packaging. My first order from Labelpeelers was definitely a disappointment."

"This is my favorite hop. I have used it in everything from wheat beers (at very low doses) to IPA's. I had somone tast a pale ale where I used it, and asked her what was unuque about the beer, and her response was that it tasted like I had put grapefruit or some other citrus in the beer. It gives a very floural, fruity and citrus based bitterness."
