Chocolate Malt
Chocolate malt is a roasted malt that adds deep color and smooth, approachable roast character to your beer. Despite the name, it does not contain chocolate, but develops rich flavors during roasting that resemble cocoa and dark chocolate.
It contributes dark brown color along with notes of mild coffee, toasted grain, and a soft bitterness. Chocolate malt is commonly used in porters, stouts, and brown ales to build depth without the sharper edge of darker roasted malts. In smaller amounts, it can enhance color and add a subtle roasted layer to a wide range of styles.
