Smoked Malt

Smoked malt is a specialty malt that adds distinctive smoky character to your beer. It is produced by drying the grain over specific wood sources, which impart flavors that can range from subtle and woody to bold and campfire-like, depending on the malt and smoking process.

It contributes light to moderate color along with layered notes of smoke, toast, and earth. Used in smaller amounts, it adds complexity and depth. In larger quantities, it can define the entire profile of the beer. Smoked malt is essential for traditional styles like Rauchbier, but can also be used creatively to add a unique twist to a wide range of recipes.

The added complexity from smoke malt works well with aging if used in moderate amounts. Drink smoked beer fresh to enjoy pronounced smoke; longer aging softens and mellows those flavors over time.
